This is what I did or wanted to do in the holidays I wanted but I didn't go but I still have gone there before. This place is called Whakatane. It's about a four hour drive. Have you ever been to Whakatane before?

One thing that would make your writing even better would be to try use different sentence lengths:
Short sentences have five words. Some could be longer with three beautiful, creative, interesting adjectives in them. Some could be combined with the word "and", and go on a little longer to paint a picture. Short sentences are punchy.
